About The Project

As Vooks continued to grow, we saw an opportunity to expand beyond animated storybooks by becoming a richer storytelling platform for kids and families.

Parents consistently shared moments where stories were valuable but video wasn't always the ideal medium: during car rides, bedtime routines, quiet time, and independent play. At the same time, customer research showed strong demand for expanded audio content that we posited would increase conversion and retention of key best-fit customer segments.

The result was the Audio Library: a dedicated listening experience featuring audiobooks, music, and curated audio content designed specifically for families. Because our existing catalog translated naturally to audio, we were able to deliver meaningful new value while building on the strengths of the platform.

As one of the largest product initiatives during my time at Vooks, the project required balancing customer needs, business strategy, content partnerships, and technical constraints while ensuring the experience felt like a natural extension of the Vooks ecosystem.

Guiding Principles

The Right Experience For The Right Moment
Different moments call for different experiences. The Audio Library was intentionally designed to complement Vooks' animated stories with a dedicated listening experience for times when families wanted stories without the screen.

Build On Existing Strengths (Quickly)
Rather than waiting to build an entirely new audio ecosystem, we chose to build on one of Vooks' greatest strengths: a high-quality library of professionally narrated stories. This allowed us to deliver meaningful value quickly (a key goal of the MVP), while creating a strong foundation for future expansion.

Customer-Led Expansion
The decision to expand into audio wasn't based on market trends alone. Customer interviews, surveys, and usage patterns consistently pointed toward a growing desire for more listening experiences, giving us confidence that the Audio Library was a meaningful next step for the platform.

Designing For Common Family Routines

The Audio Library was the result of sustained customer understanding, not a single insight. By staying close to families through interviews, surveys, and ongoing feedback, we identified an opportunity to expand Vooks in a way that created meaningful value for both our customers and the business.

Expanding Everyday Moments

While books formed the base of the Audio Library, we also explored new ways families could engage with audio that would be both fun and practical. Working with a local musician, we created original 2 minute tooth brushing and flossing songs to help make those routines easier and more playful.

A Foundation For Further Growth

With a firm audio foundation in place, the Vooks team is able to expand into a variety of other content types and partnerships to deliver even more value to customers.
